Title: Res Life Incompetence
Complaint: I need information on where exactly I can live in the fall and Res Life doesn’t keep their website up to date. I’ve went into the office a few times over the past few weeks to get the facts straight since I am unable to do so by just looking it up online and all I get is "Just check online. Everything is there." When I explain that it’s not, the website is a mess, and only has information about fall 2011-spring 2012, all I get are shrugs. I need help so I can decide on whether to live on campus or off campus. Since the Buckingham is not going to be contracted with Columbia after the spring 2012 semester and failed to clearly advertise just exactly when their new leasing will start, my room has been leased and I am S.O.L. Where were those early notifications for Columbia students already residing in the Buckingham? I just got an email this week that they will start leasing, yet my room was leased weeks ago. So since the manager at The Buckingham could not help me (and was very snarky, if I may add), I go to Res Life, only to find arrogant women spending their paid hours eating wheat thins and answering emails while actively ignoring an upset student with questions that need to be answered. I have lost faith in Res Life. Not only has the Buckingham lost 13 grand, I will most certainly not be living on campus in the fall. If I will not be treated with respect by Res Life, I will go elsewhere to find a place to live. This is absolutely ridiculous.
Title: What is going on?!
Complaint: The foundation courses for film and video are a joke at times. I want to learn how to use the cameras better to make interesting shots. But it seems like the teachers give us as basic instruction as they can on how to use the actual equipment. Then they just throw us out into the streets and say, "Go shoot something awesome!" I always have to look up tutorials on how to use the Bolex/JVC. I could do that at home and not pay all this money! I hate the constant run around that I have to deal with here and that I’ve heard other people deal with. Time is money and once again, I feel like Columbia is wasting both of mine.
Title: Loud Neighbors
Complaint: We just got a hello kitty killr!! She has a baby kitten and she leaves at 5am and comes back at 10pm Monday thru Friday. On random nights at 3am she screams at the cat in Asian and swings the broom hitting everything on sight. ITs so loud and the walls are paper thin!! We can hear the kitten all the time :(
Title: I just want to make Art
Complaint: Is it possible to make art when two authoritarian bureaucrats who only care about their salary, power and ego assert total and arbitrary control over your film?
